Scream

Why do foxes scream the way they do
What upsets them so much?
To make them screech like that
Is it combing out the tugs
In its bushy, bushy tail
Is it their bad oral hygiene?
Making them suffer fang ache
Do they make that sound
Just when they realise that they are ginger
Have they scared themselves looking
At their own ginger reflection
In the rippleless duck pond
Are they just scared of the dark
Despite having to be nocturnal
Is it as a tribute to their
Number one hero Michael Jackson
Do they scream because they’re a fox
Rather than a pampered human pet
Does he scream in dreams
Of being the victim of the hunt
Of being chased to exhaustion
Of being ripped to shreds
By a pack of its own relatives
Trained and forced by
Humans on horseback
Or does it scream
Simply scream
That blood curdling scream
When it hears that
Simon Cowell has just commissioned
Yet another series of
The X-Factor
I don’t know about foxes
But that certainly makes me scream
And not in a good way
