Song

 I needed sleep
I needed my bed
Today I’ve been well watered
Today I’ve been well fed
Rather than meet you
I should have fled
I should have sped
Downhill on a sled
Or on my trusty moped
I should have hid in the shed
It’s not that I’m brain dead
It’s not that I am inbred
Unwed or even newlywed
It’s not that I’m a bubblehead
It’s you;

You sowed the thread
Inside my bald head
It wasn’t something you said
Not a word like pled,
ned, bread, tread,
or even thoroughbred
or gingerbread
or purebred
or a purebred thoroughbred
gingerbread man

it was a song;
A tune that I now dread
That’s got me seeing red
It doesn’t even end in ‘ed’
Or rhyme with ‘ed’
Making this poem
So feckin difficult
And the song is
“Lonely Boy” by
Clarence Henry
And I hate it
And I hate you
For putting it in
My head
