A Recipe For Disaster

For you:

I opened up a can of love
I opened up a packet of hugs
I sprinkled on sweet kisses
I cracked open a bottle of tenderness
I grated smiles and jokes
I seasoned with playfulness
I added considerate, gentle love making
I coated with honey
I baked all these ingredients
In the warmth of human kindness
Being so careful not to overcook
I served you a dish of the best I could be

For me:

You opened up a can of whoop ass
You opened a packet of insults
You sprinkled on lies
You cracked open a bottle of abuse
You grated occasional violence
You seasoned with infidelity
You added selfishness and greed
You coated with rejection
You baked all the ingredients
In deliberate cruelty and hellfire
Ensuring that I got burned
You served me the worst that you could be

My love for you
Became a recipe
For disaster.
