Ignorance and Arrogance
We think we are supreme beings who spin in emptiness
Microbes on a grain of sand
Cast upon an endless beach of eternity
We whirl dizzy with our sense of importance
Our towering arrogance
Matched only by the depths of our ignorance
Believing some omnipotent deity
Has the slightest interest in our pathetic existence
That we can affect its judgement
To grant us favours not given to others
‘But we are the chosen ones’ we cry
Of course we are, we’re chosen to die
We murdered our brothers for you god
Because they don’t think as we
Heretics you see
Never seeing the irony, the crass stupidity
The paradise you seek, fools, is all about you
The slain ones your brothers
Oh man I despair

excellent write, it backs up my feelings of despair and lack of hope in my species - the last line says it all :-)

Thank you David I, too, despair of the antics of men as they seek power over others especially when they use the myth of religion to this end.

Oh Kitty bloke, in love with this last line. And the others before. I a Christian id guess youd say by very broad and unconventional definition. But i get very frustrated by that definition. I studied world religions and see much of it as parabolic. Allegory. Though archeology anthropological studies have unearthed historically sound proof that much of it happened, in base. i am chastised by fellow believers that i believe in plurality of faiths, that i read all scripture not just what Constantine included in the Cannon decided apon by was it 23 men? so his city could get along and what King James wanted left in so he could justify divorce from Katherine of Ara gon.
That i find it in the scope of reason Noahs arc could have been a dna bank and extraterrestrial beings helped him create them.
That all religions might be based on the same or simalar events described in different societal and cultural perspective.
That the big bang is described quite well by "and let there be light."
I find the similarity in myth the thing not a reason to kill and indeeed it can be seen on a Gods hands. Though i personally feel its on humans.
Our inability to see things in others perspective, to look not at similarity and be amaz d by it only at the difference and use forse both verbal governmental and violent to bend others our way.
God should have had "explicit, adults only" on all texts in his name.
Any snatch, i rant. But a thoughtful, thought provoke my smiling man.

Wow my deep thinking lady I didn't expect such a detailed response to my poem. I did write it in a fit of despair at man's cruelty to his fellow man.
If there is such a deity as god it certainly does not exist in the form man thinks of it. It certainly does not seek to punish us for wrong dong nor yet reward us for doing 'right' (Whatever that is) As Shakespeare said "Nothing is either right or wrong but thinking makes it so"
The simplistic belief that 'if my way is right then everyone else must be wrong' is a key factor in a lot of the world's misery. I learned to look on the religions like an old cart wheel with many spokes. The truth was the hub and the spokes the different religions. It doesn't matter which spoke you travel down as they all lead to the same place
The fact that there is order in the universe points to the existence of an intelligence of sorts.What is we don't yet know and we won't find it by murdering each other and refusing to look at any other way than our own.
Mars, Odin and all the other 'gods' are just as valid as our beliefs today. iMHO
