If, I Was Your Man

I'm not saying...I should
Or, I would
Or even, that I could
What I'm relaying, is...I can
...If, I was your man
You would never have to wonder
You'd automatically understand
The extent, to which, my love is advanced
Far beyond the elementary, introductory romance, you've experienced in your past
Without shame, you'd feel free to extol & exclaim
In a similar tone & way, like Etta James, when she sang, "At Last"
Enjoying the group dynamic...Between me, you, and God going at it...En masse
With the only conceivable clash, not involving conflict or discord
What I'm referring to, is how we both merge...And come together, in the name of The Lord
Looking forward...To the good getting better
And basking in each subsequent moment, that our future holds
...If, I was your man
I would be BOLD!
But, not so naive that I wouldn't suppose
We'd have our fair share of highs & lows
As though, our heights were so divine
That our lows could never go below the cover...Of the bright blue sky, smiling down, from above us
Hanging around to spread gossip
Telling the night, that we're two star-crossed lovers
Trying to start trouble
But dusk to dawn couldn't keep us from it
...If, I was your man
I'd hold your hand...Silently praying we share the same plan
We'd say "Amen"
Then, share the same bed
Embracing & playing
I'm not saying...I should
Or, I would
Or even, that I could
What I'm relaying, is...I can
...If, I was your man
