It helps a little.

There is no better place
to take loneliness
than the bars.

The sounds of car engines
and voices fighting, sink
to the bottom of the glass
where they wait to be transferred
to bottom of the next.

You can watch your hands
not growing against the stillness
of the bar's surface...
Each sip promising to take you
further away from the drone.

I do not deny the stagnant air
of notes leaving the wallet
for this desperate grab at escapism,
but I will defend our habits
as a clean and easy way
of ploughing through the days.
