Rina I agree originality is the key I catch myself sometimes not copying someone but be unconsciously being influenced by their writes that's when I back space and start again..

Absolutely Brenda, I agree.
Its easy to fall in the trap of 'borrowing' but a simple remedy would resolve many grey issues and questions by saying 'hey i was inspired by your work or the conversations which transpired from a particular poem, and i wrote this as a reflection' and not only it would be the right thing to do but also it would show mutual respect.

Isn't funny how often times, Writers or musicians who create new landscapes and grab a following;
are in turn copued, their formulas followed to a T- become the money makers and stars.
While originators are left in the dust of forgotten and never known but by few?
Hell....science too, it's a blight upon the human imagination.

Well it only takes one stumble to raise doubt and right now with the way this particular situation is falling is as absurd as a child saying, ' my dog ate the paper', that might work right now but they would be quite obtuse to think that seasoned writers are oblivious to cheap excuses like that.

I've been told many tines in the past that I write in a unique manner... Funny thing is, I have two bros. Who also write n many times people have said they can't tell who writes what lol... Still I'm aware my stuff had been stolen too... Excellent commentary my dear :)

Keep your uniqueness PIKM, thats why we love you and we love how you keep coming up with topics which are original and makes us think with an awe.    

Pharrell and Thicke had to pay  Marvin Gaye's family $7.4 million......... the Gaye family said what the superstars did was a form of disrespect to them. No matter which way you dress it up or tweek and change it, the foundation or blue print or the music was there.......the jury agreed. Eventually karma comes around the fraud is exposed, even if the person gets away with it here and there. In a case where you are considered more established, it can be that much more embarrassing. Originality means you are creative, unique, passionate. To think you can keep going through life being riding on someone else's originality is only revealing how maybe you aren't as talented or perhaps nothing about you is real. But I agree, it can all be avoided with a simple side note to show respect even if it was inspiration. Nicely done, you made me think ; )

So there with you on this topic.  Had much of my early writing from another site plagiarized so know first hand the violation one feels when this happens to them.  This digital day and age, such acts are rampant...sadly.  You presented this well.  Wish there was more we could do in the prevention aspect.

I am often inspired by quotations and Ralph Waldo Emerson has said some of my favorites. I remember having a good laugh when I read this by RWE, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know." For that precise reason do I write. It's my quest for authenticity and the conduit through which I express my deepest thoughts and emotions.
