On the horse (a reflection on depression)

You're stronger than you know
And I need you to remember
That you've been through this before,
Shrouded in shadow clouds of winter,
Flayed mind screaming at the floor
As colors fade to gray's December,

Beating numbing the feelings in your heart
It's hard to find yourself back at the start

Broken and sore,
Bracing for more,
Starting from scratch,
Itching at scars,

Swollen red eyes taking in the new world
While attempting to maneuver its twists and turns
Ignoring the rawness of bruises and burns...

Pulling yourself to your feet
Isn't always the easiest feat
When you're flinching and cringing
Through white knuckle teeth,
Every stumble becoming another stubbed toe...
You're stronger than you know.
