BANG! BANG! For Change

You know there've been alot of movements throughout the US history on the grounds of social change,

From the American Revolution, Civil Rights, to Prohibition,

The staunch status-quo must've found these motions earth-shatteringly deranged,

Looking back we recognize the monumental importance they had on closing gaps of societal division,

However to this day I find the Prohibition baffling,

Draining wine barrels and beer kegs seems a strange way of mending household relations and eliminating sexual promiscuity,

Let's be honest with each other here,

Early 19th century mainstream culture was undergoing a major shift,

Women desired to be called "boss" instead of "dear",

Seeking not to be cogs in the traditionalist machine but left alone to drift,

Flapping their heels and gums,

1920's women were roaring with the ferocity of a lion and marching to the beat of their own drum,

But just as there existed the passionate youth,

On the opposite end of the polarized spectrum lay their elders consumed with their age-old convictions,

Stout in their alcoholic abolitionist defense, deeming short hair with matching as sacrilegious and uncouth,

Through these women's determination and perseverance modern women take for granted their rights enjoyed today,

So why did they have to take our booze away,

Through Puritan speeches and social justice marches the fabrics of society were woven,

Patching moth-eaten familial ties with holy scripture and mending spousal ties for men and women,

But alas their mis-colored band-aid solutions didn't translate well upon the bigger picture,

For when it comes to household violence or the casual imbibers of liquor men weren't the only culprit,

Though it's hard for your voice to your voice to be heard through stone when you've been damned at the pulpit,

The problem wasn't alcohol it was violence,

For most men after half a day of intensive labor liquor was their only solace,

So when people and politicians defame gun ownership as dangerous and seek to make the right unconstitutional,

Realize comrades that they're the same type of lobbyist that took our beer away,

Until they realized that outlawing our after work's whiskey doesn't keep enraged tempers and domestic disputes at bay,

Plot twist everyone this is just rinse and repeat,

More ridiculous legislation to keep freedom on the retreat,

But through rationality and self-control we will launch a new offensive,

On this affront to personal liberty,

Against governmental litigation so erroneous to this country's foundation that our Founding Fathers would grimace at this atrocity,

It is not the instrument that creates a masterful symphony,

It is not the lawnmower that keeps your yard weed-free and pristine,

It is the person behind it,

That, my friends, is the essence of liberty.
