Take A Look Around

The endless number of people walking past each other on the streets
Some of these faces are lit by the backlight of their phones
While others have their headphones in, tuning the world out
Rarely do we try and make contact with the people around us
Even though we are surrounded by people, we are all alone
What happened to the days of honest conversations with your neighbours?
When friends get together at dinner and would enjoy each other's company
Instead of burying our faces in our phones, updating our social media
Snapchatting or posting on Instagram pictures of our meals
Rather than enjoying them which would've been the chef's intention
Take a look around and you'll realize we've lost the art of conversation
Gone are the times when we'd make eye contact with someone across the room
Instead now we are more focused on taking the perfect selfie on our phones
In hopes that perfect selfie would promote someone to swipe right not left
Gone are the days when we would lounge around with beers in the summer
Replaced with endless hours spent on our phones with our friends next to us
Instead of creating lasting memories with our friends and family
So many of us are addicted to the different games offered at the App Store
The age of technology and social media have proved its worth
It's able to connect everyone from around the world to everyone
Has it really connected everyone to each other? Or has it provided an excuse?
An excuse to not socialize with friends, family or people you meet on the streets
We created a physical connection with everyone, but lost the emotional one
In a world where everyone is interconnected with a touch of a button,
Never have the feeling of loneliness been more prominent
7 billion people, yet no one to have a meaningful conversation with.
