New for Old

 The old scars serve to remind us
Of past suffering already undergone
The new scars are there to show us
We have not learned from the past
This is not an old for new scenario
We don’t get to swap one for the other
The pain from the old scars remain
The pain from the new scars is additional
For some the pain from old scars
Is less intense, somewhat dulled down
Sadly for some this is not always the case
The freshness and rawness of new scars
Always present, always intense, sore
For some new scars are preventable
Some people put their selves directly
In harms way, for their own reasons
That sometimes only make sense to them
The beaten wife returning to her husband
The bullied, intimidated into inertia
We all have the ability to heal scars
We all have the ability to prevent
New scars from being cruely applied
Not necessarily to ourselves
With proactive love and support
As individuals we can help others
Reducing the old and the new
We all know somebody with scars
Choose to help carry their load
In doing so your own scaring
Also benefits from healing
