Boots

how many steps had she taken in them? thousands. They had taken her through the woods on cool September days. To parties, and gatherings. They had walked on pavement, in grassy parks, over stoney beaches. They had helped her plunge shovels into the earth. They had even, just once, become a weapon of destruction to kill wasps that had stung her daughter. They went beautifully with a skirt she wore during the holidays. She did her best to take good care of them. Her dog, would often hide one of them in order to keep her home, searching for the one missing boot. A clever game he came up with on his own. Her daughter would slide her small little feet into them and play dress~up. They had become more than just boots, they had become filled with moments to remember. But, time had caught up with them as time does. The leather was worn and incredibly soft. The soles were not necessarily made for the wear and tear that these had seen. But then, that's how she did things. Wore them down to the bare threads. Got every ounce out of everything she had, because material things were just that, things. The laces were unraveling, bare threads hanging loose at the ends.  And yet she could not part with them. She felt like many things in life they deserved a second chance. She decided to get them repaired. Almost embarrassed by their appearance. But here was a man who had seen pretty much everything. He could tell by the look on her face that these were special to her. Not merely just any pair of boots. He went through them, almost took them completely apart to put them back together. It was a challenge any good shoe cobbler would relish. He took his job very seriously. It took him three weeks to repair them to his satisfaction. He remade them, and if it's possible they were even more beautiful to her now.
