why no one tried

while they were riding home in damn near
semi-automatic
bliss,

they couldn't hear
the thoughts
inside her head.

she sat at the back
of the bus and

contemplated
how lovely it was
to be sitting with such wonderful
people (even if they might have looked
a little sad).

she filled them
with blessings

and let great beams of Love
wash over their fingertips
and toes.

she sometimes spent
a saturday evening
picking up trash behind

the seven eleven
and starbucks
near her home.

she often felt that derisive looks
stemmed from homeless assumptions,

yet she had a bed to go to,
and a pillow, and
a glass of water on her bedside table,

which all fed in
to why she cared.

if someone was hungry
(and sometimes their eyes
offered this knowledge more than
their mouths)

she would always offer
a bite.

while waiting for the bus
she smiled
and made eye contact with
each passing stranger.

when she got home,
she showered in water just a bit
too hot

to help soak in
those who smiled back
and melt away
the heaviness of those
who never would.

day in
and day out
there were micro moments

when her essence reached out
and touched the world.

but no one noticed.

with such flashy loud distractions
so readily available,

who would ever see her
bend over
and smell
every last flower on the path?

the masses became lost
in expectations of loss,

they figured the war
was over,

that apathy had won,

and so no one ever tried to fix
what seemed
irretrievably
broken.

no one,
but her.

again,
and again,
in every small way,
profoundly and silently
she kept believing.

and one day
it happened.

i noticed.

i became swept up
in the beauty
of a gift given
with no need
of reciprocation.

i Loved her
and i Loved the world
all the more
for allowing her existence.

we took up the fight
together
silently, profoundly,
in every small way-

we gave Life back to the world.
