An Ironic Discovery

Walking into a murder scene
Seeing a mangled body lying before you
Blood escaping open slits on the wrists
Bruises and whip marks covering flesh that had been full of life moments open
Missing teeth allowing dead air to accumulate inside of the mouth
Cigarette burns so fresh you swear that you can smell the smoke
The item catching the most attention is the hair
The way it rests in strands, covering the victim's face
Keeping the identity concealed
Working up the courage to reveal the face
As the hair is moved a person's identity is found
Swearing that this person has been seen before
Contemplating where you recall seeing that lifeless face
This face that laid a pale shade of grey, eyes glazed over with an even coat
Passing a window you catch a glimpse of your reflection
Taking a step back you examine your own reflection
Looking back from the body to the window all the pieces come together
You are the lifeless vessel you walked in on
It's amazing how hard it is to remember something so traumatic when you're too numb to feel it
