Evening star

When next you see an evening star
(clouds dispersed and fading sun)
night jars shall join to  reflect retreating day
 and  coming night,when moons
shall light the blue-black sky.
Look into the night and, if you will, think who
shares this view. a view as ancient
past time unchanged  as pictures on the wall,
save for cracks and  peeling gilt.
Pigments  shrinking in the stale
air and sterile gaze of incomprehension.
