ODE FOR THE KIBABULU FOUR
(The writer does not regard the people who were briefly gaoled in Malaysia for ‘indecent behaviour’ in undressing unadvisedly on Mount Kibabalu as heroes; nonetheless he could not resist making this up.)
We got butt naked on a mountain top
Deep in Malaysia, and then a cop
Took us; we heard we’d ‘offended the gods’
By showing off our Ashtangaed bods,
Not just to each other but the world round
When on social media pics were found.
An earthquake happened, not on the same day,
On the island, took eighteen lives away.
Did we not know the mountain is sacred,
Which our behaviour ‘desecrated’?
We were thrown in the cooler, all of us,
Attracting an international fuss.
Lesson – don’t strip off in sacred places,
It could end in tears or egg on faces!
