So Goes The Red Rose

So beautiful is the rose surrounded by weeds
surely a struggle for sustenance was won
a brilliant red like the pulse of the heart
standing alone amidst the redundancy
of the wild uncompromising growth
there goes the blackberry vine creeping forth
soon to overtake the vision seen
and now my quandary ensues

Shall I gather the rose
in all it's splendor giving me
temporary pleasure
keeping in mind that the collection
requires getting past the thorns
knowing that even constant care
can only delay the inevitable

Shall I proclaim this territory
as the exclusive domain of what
I so value
making this a long term investment
and rejoicing in the cycles
of a flower's life

Or do I let nature fully control the outcome
divesting myself of any involvement
enjoy what is now
and not worrying about the future
can I be content in a passive mode

Lessons we can gain from the natural world
some we may relearn when other designs
overload our consciousness
and so I resolve that though my wants
dictate otherwise
I know which road I must take...
