Together We Should Come

I see the fire that burns in your eyes
a call for concentrated apathy to be checked
at the doorway to a great society
the coalition of forces
though disparate at moments
finds value in all
not the just the different hues and colors
or whom is a preferred mate
and not just those living under the same flag
or trade contests that revolve around stats

I see the fire that burns in your eyes
at how four legged pets are cherished
while fellow human beings are routinely ignored
how the largest living organism called earth
is taken for granted as the ultimate
regeneration machine
unintended consequences of a lust exclusively for profits
oil spills and mountain tops cleared

I still see that fire that burns in you eyes
and hope you recognize the collective demand
that our world gets it's act together
they can attach whatever label to what we do
we shan't apologize for concern we express
taking care of not only our own
but those we may never met

Walking back a few years I know
but in walking back we are also jumping ahead
