And gloried in the dawn

I rose early, the day not yet begun
the morning-glory on the trellis
flowers close-furled hints of blue
to flourish in the rising sun
clinging close to the rose bud
waiting bees and hover-flies
night-time moths, wings enfolded
retreating before the butterfly
her wings opening, colours
reflected in the stained glass
windows within the gothic arch.
Pigeons first to welcome day,
the night-time-cat goes home.
I had not dressed, a wine glass,
full beside the chair,tempting,
the bottle we had shared replete
crystals spilling on the table.
I took the goblet, and its gentle stem
watched blue flowers on the trellis
joined the chorus of the birds
and gloried in the dawn.
