Groundsel by the garage door

Yellow by the garage door
seeds,parachutes unfurled
ready for hungry finches.
and cinnabar, black and red.
Warning 'Do not eat'.
Yellow by the garage door
a weed by any name,
yet welcome here
where nature has her way.
Exotic plants at garden centres
unwelcome by the garage door
locked 'til yellow flowers fade,
seeds consumed by finches.
Now welcome summer songs
praise this common groundsel
its humility, yellow flowers
seeding the earth for me
without charge, free as the air
I share with cinnabar and finch.
