"When The Music's Over"

I've been up for days
I'm thinking music can save me
from going away for a very long time
Let the distraction engulf me
for only sleep waits when it ends

Jumping genres and changing
Is it possible to surprise yourself?
The hint of something new
or perhaps something old
enough to drive me forwards

For I am here alone
Any help is miles and hours away
Is that what I want anyway?

What is my legacy?
My two children
25 years of hard work
The toys and trinkets
I surround myself with
Will they bury them with me?
Or box them up and sell them?

The night is long and I don't see a future
Can I make this night last forever?
Secluded and loud
Hoping but
knowing

The meds don't work anymore
Familiarity breeds contempt
I can't be the medical experiment
any longer
They are just tricks holding me here

My life is lost down some old
country road
The ones they don't even bother
to pave
no reception
no deception
no redemption
no perception
I'll keep walking until
the music fades
away
