A Moment Before Waking

He lacked authority or, so, it seemed;
How could she lie there naked? So reposed,
Unconscious in the sunlight, as it roved
And added radiance to beauty dreamed
Of for a hundred years, while some had schemed
And thought of nothing else, when their eyes closed;
Were all the mysteries that, they'd supposed,
Lay underneath her garments, now redeemed?

While warm light blended with her rather well,
It made him swallow air, when breathing deep;
He wondered if a kiss is what will be
And would it always be? He could not tell,
For, with each breath, he sensed, while she’s asleep,
He lacked both daring and authority.
