War of Youth
I am haphazardly aging
Still raw and fresh
Yet somehow feeling
As though I am an old soul
Empathic visions
Of the yin yang balance
Of good and evil
And the blurred lines
In between
Forming quotes in my head
As if one day others
Might repeat me
In a half committed agreement
And loosely keep me in mind
Like fading memories
Of youth
In amnesiac swirls
Of consciousness
I've grown busy
Joining this Southern rat race
With a willing yet hesitant vigor
Driven to prove myself worthy
Yet the rebel within
Screams to diverge
From the beaten path
Yet as I find myself
In a retail job
In a money driven existence
In a future focused education
In déjà vu moments
Day in and day out
I struggle to create uniqueness
An experience all my own
To enjoy the years of now
Still raw and fresh
Yet somehow feeling
As though I am an old soul
Empathic visions
Of the yin yang balance
Of good and evil
And the blurred lines
In between
Forming quotes in my head
As if one day others
Might repeat me
In a half committed agreement
And loosely keep me in mind
Like fading memories
Of youth
In amnesiac swirls
Of consciousness
I've grown busy
Joining this Southern rat race
With a willing yet hesitant vigor
Driven to prove myself worthy
Yet the rebel within
Screams to diverge
From the beaten path
Yet as I find myself
In a retail job
In a money driven existence
In a future focused education
In déjà vu moments
Day in and day out
I struggle to create uniqueness
An experience all my own
To enjoy the years of now
