Silent smiles unfading

He did not turn up today
nor last night in dreams
Yet I feel his presence
as yesterday and tomorrow
ever here beside,memories
linger of pale blue sky
reflecting in his eyes.
A craftsman's hands and
supple mind to deal with
the poverty of his coat
shoes that did not fit,
alone but for hedgerows
teeming birds and mice.

It is his ghost I see
of him I do not dream
there is no need,waking
hours fulfilled, gentle
silent smiles unfading
memories from boyhood
let me sleep content
to still the dreaming
when night invades the day.
