Heart-Shaped Box/ Defiled banner/ Dirty Hands

 
If life is like a heart-shaped box
filled with variety
then why does any sudden change
bring such anxiety?

If love is like a battlefield
that would explain a lot
'Cos every time I get involved
I end up getting shot

If freedom really isn't free
and daily battles fought
Then why would you defile the flag
without a second thought?

If your God is so all-powerful
why don't he lend a hand?
Or is the senseless suffering
somehow part of the plan?

If in his image we are cast
why don't we look the same?
Some celebrate their beauty
while others hide in shame?

I've read the words long written down
enough to get the gist
The message that I got was love
so why not coexist?

It's funny that you'd pray for me
as if I need some help
Instead of watching how I live
you should inspect yourself
