Another Enemy

I have just cleaned enough forks,
knives and spoons
to facilitate all those acquaintances
I will not have round for dinner.

I loathe to return to the plates;
dusted with something we ate
days ago.
Let's not even begin to discuss
the inside of the blender
in which I created the Mackerel Pate.

My one true friend in the equation:
My trusty beer glass...
I merely rinse her before
refilling her
and we are happy together.
She doesn't beg for the suds
or the post-soak rinse
like the stainless steel pan
in all of its pretentious glory.

However much I despise
surpressing my loftiness
to drown inanimate objects
it will get done...
Don't you worry!
