A Heart Full of Caution

I write this poem with caution in my heart
But there is no fear in me of this man

He has treated me with nothing but respect
He enjoys me and I enjoy him, simple as that

Maybe this is all that this will ever be
But in my heart there is a seed of hope

And day by day this hope grows inside me
With each kind word he offers, it grows

I was afraid at first... for I have cared for many
And so many have turned their backs to me

So I have chosen this... that I will cautiously care for him
I will be here, when he needs me I aim for him to know I'm there

I feel something other then the numbed pain inside my chest
He fills me with renewed hope and wonder, how can he be real?

Is this all but one complex dream I am trapped in?
Because if this is a dream... then I hope I never wake up
