[2015] Leaving My Shadow In The Dark
I walk alone
back to the wall
My shadow, I disown
along street it does crawl;
ducking into the alleyways
this blackened figure preys
on the flaming trashcan bums
stilletoed whores
Strike a match
light a cigarette
and in the flash I can see
this creature of the night
glaring back at me
from behind window panes
doorways and every unlit street corner
as a wicked wind unfurls through town
Pausing under storefront awning
wishing the moon up above
was the sun now dawning
without a clue as to
where I'm going
What better way is there
to leave what's behind me in the past?
What better way is there?
Leaving my shadow in the dark
back to the wall
My shadow, I disown
along street it does crawl;
ducking into the alleyways
this blackened figure preys
on the flaming trashcan bums
stilletoed whores
Strike a match
light a cigarette
and in the flash I can see
this creature of the night
glaring back at me
from behind window panes
doorways and every unlit street corner
as a wicked wind unfurls through town
Pausing under storefront awning
wishing the moon up above
was the sun now dawning
without a clue as to
where I'm going
What better way is there
to leave what's behind me in the past?
What better way is there?
