The Great Piece of Turf

It poured water colors
yesterday in the grass,
dandelions bent,
sloven simplicity
rumpled in dishevelment,
still yellow in their clumps
of cloven tongue and youngness,

I see the sunflowers of Van Gogh
and celebrate the happiness,
the beautiful artist again,
the Vase of Pink Roses;
favorites that remind us of goodness,

Stolen memories in stillness,
As the night is banished
once more by dawn,
the birds preach their sermon,
and the worms repent their sins.

Happy Earth Day, today
this is all I had to offer.
