nocturne


her lips were coated with honey, her kiss was Springtime sweet
my lips were brushed with lemon, bitter as the winds of Autumn

she embraced me with the velvet skin of rose petals
in response, I held her with thorns

she was the glory of dawn, the strength of a governing sun,
reluctant to diminish at dusk
I was pursued by encroaching storm clouds, shivering in the
drench of black & sorrowful rains

she was serene as moonlight, braiding stars & romance in her poems
I was drunken, vindictive, splattering curses upon brittle parchment

she sang a song of surrender, of love unfading & true
I heard a song of wanderlust, that beckoned me away, & far

her heart was a dying flame, a dim lantern, adjuring the distant road
my heart was a drifting tumbleweed, of no dream or fortune,
and I would never return
