Basically Bad
Fear sets in like love
Dare I say it from above?
It may be from below
But I being me, would not know
Afraid to give myself to thee
Fragile thoughts that will not let me be
The old wanting to be new
And simple me, needing it to be you
We strum our heavy strings
But the vibration never brings
The lives our dreams fleetingly foretold
Debts unpayable, broken and on-sold
Was she the one?
Your great undone
The trick, never to be shown
Or someone special never to be known
She was born by the fires of hell
Those flames you remember only too well
Burned you once and over again
We’re all basically bad, women and men
Dare I say it from above?
It may be from below
But I being me, would not know
Afraid to give myself to thee
Fragile thoughts that will not let me be
The old wanting to be new
And simple me, needing it to be you
We strum our heavy strings
But the vibration never brings
The lives our dreams fleetingly foretold
Debts unpayable, broken and on-sold
Was she the one?
Your great undone
The trick, never to be shown
Or someone special never to be known
She was born by the fires of hell
Those flames you remember only too well
Burned you once and over again
We’re all basically bad, women and men
