Comedian vs. Loser
If I'm on stage doing my act
About all my issues with people
Everyone is laughing and connecting
And I'm seen as a comedic genius
But, if I'm confiding in you
as a friend, about all my human issues
Secretly, but not to my face
You think I'm a fucking Loser
Why the double standard ?
Is it because you paid to see the comedian ?

Secretly, but not to my face

Relatable vs personal
When you're generalizing, it's easier to laugh at, and also when in a crowd of laughing people, most tend to automatically want to blend in and let out hesitant chuckles themselves, whether or not they find someone/thing funny.
When you confide in someone, you're giving them power to judge you on a personal level, not an entertainment level.
Different venues, perhaps.
Good poem regardless, made me think.
