Love and Drugs

I've heard it said "Love is the best drug"
so compared to my favorite narcotics
I've been impassioned like a lightning bug
whose blinking path flies so chaotic

Cocaine gives a high so potent and pure
but rehab isn't needed for love
Isolation craves company as it's one cure
feeling good's what it's indicative of

Chasing their dragon some people shoot smack
and their pain disappears with one hit
But infatuation, like big bubble wrap
guilty pleasure that we all admit

Flirtation is practiced just for the thrill
as uppers are downed by the dose
Excitement is found by both tease and pill
But the medicines don't even come close

Pickled with beer the mind it just boggles
when people hear that it's "Last Call!"
Now scanning the bar with their whiskey goggles
into a short liaison they're hoping to fall

Some people smoke pot, sometimes called dope
To achieve a particular feeling
But with one you love, ending you hope
with exhaustion both facing the ceiling

When it's mind melt you want or just if you dare
Acid or mushrooms can be quite a trip
but it's 'devil may care' and neither compare
when love's got you in it's tight grip

So as you can see, I compared both above
and that I am up for whatever
But when it comes down to drugs or to love
We usually do both together
