Conquering the Wind

- Conquering the Wind -

As the many spirits of the wind blow, fiercely,
Howling, across the land, amongst the trees…
The shrieking of the wind hath a feral ferocity.
It is something that makes my heart ill at ease!
I remember such windy nights as this long ago,
During a time I spent at a castle on Mount Fuji.
Oh how there the winds wouldst often blow…
And never once didst such sound comfort me.
I wrote of it before, but tonight, it came back!
The memory of those times, and of that place,
Like voices crying out, from a darkness black.
Even then I faced such fell demons with grace!
So much history, had that ancient land beheld,
And I walked in but a part of it like a shadow.
Every temple and shrine where I had so knelt,
Was touched, by time, wherever I couldst go!
And every life I affected, affected others too,
Just as now through my poetry I reach people.
It is humbling to consider how much I knew…
And know even now, and may know yet still.

Knowledge didst not keep the winds at bay…
When their howling made my soul feel dread.
Nor, couldst wisdom my inner demons, stay!
Only love ever kept me from joining the dead.
The keenest sword will break as time allows,
Even if once it couldst cleave a rock asunder.
The wind laughs at it whenever it thus blows!
It voices its’ mockery along with the thunder.
A single cherry blossom is far vastly stronger,
For such blossoms will return in their season.
Though every season, never lasts any longer,
Than its’ appointed times, for rightful reason.
Love and passion art, like seasons, eternal…
Growing oft stronger when their times arrive.
Such fire burns hotter than all devils infernal,
And by its’ warmth, humanity may so thrive!
Didst I muse thus back then in bygone days?
I did, for I am as unchanging, as blossoms…
My warmth still burns like the sun’s fair rays.
For a lover, it blazes so hotly and awesome!

I recall, my hands, graceful as any woman’s,
Smoothing my garments as I stood to gaze…
Out, from that castle, to look upon far lands.
Dawn greeted me touched by morning haze,
One morning of many, frozen in my memory.
How many terrible things, those hands did…
All for love, light and in fulfillment of destiny!
Yet, never from the darkness had I yet hid…
Nor hide I still, but rather I face every hour.
Mine eyes look to the horizon, ever hoping,
Whilst my heart beats to a rhythm’s power!
The harmony cosmic, there is no escaping…
I sing, and in singing I embrace the moment.
My hands create; mine eyes see only truths,
Beyond the stars above the vast firmament!
What is fated is fated, and none might undo,
So I strive to act without regret, in all things.
Let the winds howl, as they desire, thereby!
I will face my destiny, whatever fate brings,
And feel no fear, when I look up at the sky.

One cannot conquer the wind,
But one can conquer their fear.
That is how great deeds begin,
Even when paid for most dear.
