BEG, BORROW OR STEAL

The thief wears tats of your heart on a chain
Strutting on streets from misery to Main
Accessories he needs to make him whole
To make some sense of all the things he stole

Like a nightmare leaching through to daylight
Shadows hiding hopes and dreams out of sight
Draining the last bit of virtue from you
Till all that’s left is a puddle of blue

Chorus
I’ve got to beg, borrow or steal a dream
Worthy enough of your heart’s golden gleam
A ticket for better lives to redeem

I wish I knew all the tricks in the book
The right approach for the perfect left hook
Study the bee in Muhammed Ali
To win your hand and set your caged heart free

Fate might just laugh off a Queensbury rule
Spying me shadowbox before the duel
Will heaven cheat for us and intervene
Or are we at the mercy of the mean

Repeat Chorus
