Consuming Cupid

Candle lit delicate features
And burning hair blowing where
Trees tremble and spirits whisper
Verse and curse without a care

I found her shackled to my tombstone
Lamenting lyrics to long lost songs
I saw pale skin kiss the razor
Memories of a life gone so wrong

Constance, as constant
As the northern winds
Constance, now distant
The last of her dying kin

I still remember the taste of lips
That last night and our departing kiss
A single rose once so full of life
Turned into a bite and serpent’s hiss

Devilry devouring love
Consume Cupid’s bleeding heart
Deep inside the web that I wove
More in store and ripped apart

Constance, as constant
As the northern winds
Constance, now distant
The last of her dying kin

Two hearts entwined
In thorns, uncrowned
Those hearts defined
Between burial shrouds

Let go
The pain’s too much
For two dead hearts to bear
Travel
Across the Styx
The songs they sing to hear

Venom drips from two bitter hearts
On either side of the veil
Doomed to failure right from the start
This tragedy steeped in Hell

There is no sunlight upon my grave
Still I long to hear the words I crave
“Through life or death, we will endure
‘Til time comes and the end of our days”

Constance, as constant
As the northern winds
Constance, now distant
The last of her dying kin

Two hearts entwined
In thorns, uncrowned
Those hearts defined
Between burial shrouds
