I won't be...

You made me a victim
Left me with nothing but bones
And skin and a head full of air
That learnt to speak
And whispers sweet nothings
Telling me I'll never amount
To anything

I bled for the opportunity
To stand in your presence
Thought I could ride the wave
Of your words to a better life
But instead they drowned me
Left my skin bruised and burned
And waiting for the next assault
The mirrors reflecting my failure
As you claimed perfection
Beneath the fluorescent lights
That refused to show your true face

You learnt to speak in tongues of fear
Long before I tried to find what beauty
Was still left in your heart
Violence a joke I never found funny
But somehow believed
Wouldn't happen to me

You weren't to know
I've walked this road before
Made love out of monsters
Who dreamed to digging graves
For those who'd once held their hearts

And for a while it was easy
To make believe I could find
A place in your life
That didn't end in blood
But no amount of fantasy
Can truly replace reality
And glass cracks just the same
Under your white hot glare
My palms ripped of feeling
Just trying to pick up the pieces
Of every wrong yesterday

The only spine left in me
Was the one that said walk away
Fear still lingering long after
I cleared my stuff from your glass shard floor
The light on the answering machine
Flickering with the last of my words
Saying I won't be coming back
