Freedom in Chains

I'm a twisting metal vine
Amongst this broken lattice
Rusty thorns scratching
Scattered parables
In old withering wood
That one day will fade
Like all else

Wick leaves rustling softly
Dancing in the wind
Freely as a tethered dog
Caterpillar bitten holes
Silently protest
Their lack of filling
As the sun rises and falls

Only when the leaves snap
And flutter to the ground
Like a butterfly with a broken wing
Only then is it dust to dust

Just as it should be
In this
I am free
