Just another dead cat
On the side of the road
Wrapped in white and black fur
Because someone hit the cat
And left him there
For the children to see
Horror and gore
For the passerby
Except the ones that
Can’t relate
To a cat
Or to death
Or the lonely pangs
Of a child’s loss
Just another casualty
That if you really want to know,
Is no different from.
What will eventually,
Be your own.

I take your point that we'll all get snuffed one way or another. I just hope it's quick and painless for me. But road kill? That could be embarrassing. You seem to have mixed feelings (felines?) about cats. "Cat Stench" betrayed a certain animosity. Now this, which seems to have some level of sympathy for the puss of the title. I don't mean to trivialize what is really a fine poem. I wouldn't want to incur your claws.

Let's hope we don't up road kill, Crow. And while that little kitty drove me crazy I am very sad about what happened to it. Particularly when I see the empty can of tuna, his last meal. Breaks my heart! And FYI, you could NEVER incur the wrath of my claws, Crow. Only a gentle caress, of course.

This touches deep things, and holds heartbreaking truths. A strong write, even if it makes me hurt inside. Existentially profound.

to many it is just another dead cat and that is sad - it is especially sad for its human companion.
It reminds me why I prefer animals to humans
