the girl who never was
sun rises. sun sets
moon waxes & wanes
sadness follows sadness
but no one complains
days of lyrical fog
nights of surreal mist
a gentle hand was never held
sweetest lips were never kissed
pieces of tomorrow
that lovers take
there never was
a heart to break
the flowering fields
the meadows fair
don’t look for her
she isn’t there
a harvest of stars
a sheaving of years
stillborn shadows
of silence & tears
not a waltz to dance
nor a song to sing
a canvas of no colors
no girl.
no poem.
nothing

it's like a wisp of a sad dream that you are trying desperately to hold onto, but just can't remember the details. oh my heart! so sad.

This seems quite a departure from your noir side, and it's a gem. Lines like "Days of lyrical fog / nights of surreal mist" give it a gothic mood, but there's more to it than that. You've gone to take a melancholy journey.

This space u finally lead me over..called Nothing....that holds more than anything. N its not such a constancy too, for it fills n empties n so on. I am reminded of a wolverine (tokyo drift i hope) talk," nothing is without meaning" which i often rewrite within myself as, "even 'nothing' is with meaning".
classic read n yes, not ur usual story style but more poetic. Tq JF:)

Breathtaking poem, John. Swept me away, pastel coloured pictures arose, held my mind captive. Love it.

It is truly beautiful, yet so sad, how humans can mourn something that never even happened. An unborn child that was never born can bring tears to a hard man's eyes... A quixotic romance that was never begotten can make a chest ache as though there were an organ failure... A girl that never was garners so much sympathy...
I will never understand, but then again, if I did, it'd likely not be quite so interesting.......
Job well done. It's truly a masterpiece... This really got me thinking.

Nothing I can add to the above, so, I will just put this away to once again bask in it's glow sometime in the future.
