Defining Darkness

He gathered me in darkness as he'd fold
My 'treasures' with his tortures through the night;
I shivered at the thought of being sold
On losses in the blackness, sans respite
From more disgrace with every single touch
That he exposed me to; and, once he fetched
Me from obscurity, he knew I'd clutch
At straws to keep me sane, his needy wretch;

He gathered me in darkness for he'd take
The poor prize that I offered after dusk;
He'd hear me snivel quietly; and make
Me tremble at demands that are so brusque,
They forced me to a place where each excess
Would constitute definitive darkness.
