Children of the Darkness

The sun shines its cruel light on me
Burning my eyes and scarring my flesh
Like a wisp in the trees
And a lover’s last caress

Faith collapsing in sleepless nights
The neon lights consuming the soul
I stand on top great heights
To stare into pits below

I’ve become a child of the darkness
Consumed by rage and grief and sadness
Embrace the night
To embrace the madness

Jagged pieces once were a man
Now scattered about on dirty floors
In constant shifting sands
Hiding from what is in store

The pills that kill are bitter sweets
Combined with IVs of numbing joy
Toxic blood is a treat
And needles are shiny toys

You’ve become a child of the darkness
Consumed by rage and grief and sadness
Embrace the night
To embrace the madness

Twisting and turning
Betwixt the sheets
Nightmares come
In waking hours
Bitter bile you retch
Leaves your mouth sour
Yearning for a piece
Of peace so sweet
Days blur with night
Another week
Gone and lost for good
You cannot change
The past that’s set
In stone

Night terrors, instincts redefined
Find yourself lingering in shadows
When the sounds are confined
To the clicks beyond windows

He who lurks there must now beware
There are things inside that stir and howl
Things that lurk beneath stairs
Hold no terrors for me now

We’ve become a child of the darkness
Consumed by rage and grief and sadness
Embrace the night
To embrace the madness
