you are the sun

it felt real suddenly
our conversation

because there were trace amounts of consciousness
in the idea

of us

and it is true
that i could die
in the light that you shed

the gleam of your heart

i could watch it pass through a prism

and see it all turn spectral

beautiful

like you

sometimes
i imagine how it might feel to run my fingers
through your hair
in a different life
where i am a different person

i imagine loving you

but i am edmund kemper

i am nagasaki in flames

i am a twelve year old girl
gutted and stuffed with dope in the back seat of an SUV
at the mexican border

i am damage

i'll never lose you in my daydreams

i need you to exist
in the quiet little moments
to myself

and i do not expect you
to understand
