Cemetery Days

In this dream I was caked
in lurid blue eye shadow.
We dismantled the cupboard,
shook up all the colored sand
in jars. Broke all the teacups
and smashed the meat pies.
We’re a little dark and outdated,
all Victorian spirit photographs
and yellow wallpaper. My sister
finds her name among the stones.
Runs her fingers through
my cobweb, silken hair. Down
my cake of a cheek. I hide
in the mausoleum where you
find me crying into my filthy
white dress. Kiss the girl
with the raccoon eyes, slurring
into her while I grit my teeth.
The words grow big as stones
and I go stepping on them.
Turn around twice and can hear
the faint lullabies of broken
windows and abandoned cars.
Of suicides and truck stops.
In the end we crouch
in the lovers garden, bury
lockets to ward off ghosts.
Their endless chattering.
All the blood staining
our perfect little teeth.
