Poison

I hate part of myself
Something that I really am
After the story that I tell
Soon you will understand
Why I'm no good for anyone
And that I may never be

Truth be told I am nothing but poison
An unintentional fraud
Still one nonetheless
No hiding from that now
Sweet to the taste
With my genuine emotion
I'll leave you in a mess
Won't mean to but it keeps going
I feed and feed
To try to help give people what they need
And when I tell them it's safe to swallow
They believe
They let it seep into their veins
Digest it with little pain
I am the one to blame
Nothing for them to gain
In the end
And what's left now
But to pretend

If you're not careful
I'll make you my victim
Let yourself feel the pull
And I'll infect your system
I'm out for the kill
And I don't even know it
I make the wrong kind of pill
Yet I strive for opposite potion
You can't be trusted in my hands
I'm dangerous and mean
I'll hurt you with no intention
It's a side effect of me
Don't get caught in the consequences
Of trusting me with your heart
I've got this connection thing all wrong and
I'll only tear you apart

I can't control emotions
Where they should go and where they won't
Life takes me through the motions
And all I can do is float
I need to learn the limits
Be more aware and more observant
Can't sacrifice the lives of humans
Not a single one deserves it
And though I can say honest and true
I never want to hurt them
It will never be enough
Because the damage I do is permanent

Wrapped around emotion
Poison looks tempting
Don't fall for the disguise
This is what you're really getting
So sweet your teeth ache
But I'll put a cavity in your soul
And I can't even prevent the pain
It's far beyond my control
So do yourself a favour
And listen to what I say
Before you can enjoy the flavour
