Farewell my soldier.

Off to that tainted land we flew,
Filled with anticipation and excitement,
A chance to fight for your Country,
A chance to make your wfe and daughter proud.

But the novelty quickly wears off,
As day after day bullets whiz past,
As you supress fear, pity and remorse,
As you play God with peoples lives.

After the painful seven months have passed,
We return to that forgotten place called home,
Not able to forget, no longer able to feel,
Because the scars will never truly heal.

The war is behind us now, a distant memory,
Now your home everything's supposed to be ok,
But you never escape the desperate screams,
The burnt bodies and death engraved in dreams,
Screaming and thrashing in your bed,
Can't wake from the violent sleep.

The war still raging inside your head,
Paranoia begins to take it's hold,
Shame, regret and anger by your side,
The soldier that left, never came home,
So goodbye, brave soldier, you served us well,
Take your leave, see your wife and child,
Get some rest, and take your pills,
Because this is no war for you, it can't be won.
