Absentia
Snatching her words from the wind
She's still absent, but he'll hold his ground
Gathering his nerve, pressure rising
Some trace of sanity preserved
Appointments to be kept despite the dread
Slowing him through desperate motions
Her memory coaxing him on
Not allowing him to fail
His smile forced despite the fear
Shadowing that holiday cheer.

This is heartbreaking...deserves three or four reads before it can fully be absorbed. Beautiful!

Thanks, Le Fay. Such a beautiful word, "melancholia", and yet so dark. It almost sounds like a flower.

A smile can hide real feelings and it is pleasant to those around you. It's sad when you miss someone during this period of time but hey...the next year might bring you the best time of your life. Good read Crowfly and Merry Christmas.
