"If"

If it were rational, logical or fair
to express your love so complete and true
Then deny it's existence, breaking a heart
leaving one bleeding and blue

If just one could understand why you would
transport him to the pinnacle of love
Only to cast him off the cliff, suddenly, cruelly
without cause ... was he deserving of

If he had not been clueless when you oft stated
your dislike for the term goodbye, he would've known why
It should've been clear, you'd choose to alienate, ignore
and silence him away, no need to say, "Goodbye"

If time could be dialed back, saving him
from this painful, lost-love lesson
He would choose to stay in the present
better equipped, an educated spirit his weapon

If you ever choose to acknowledge and fully comprehend
the love and care you proclaimed, then chose to forsake
Here's hoping you review your, "What I'd Give"
maybe, just maybe, you'll recall what was at stake

If you wish to witness shame, look only at these words
For it is shameful to confess, he fell for your lies
But, all is well, life goes on, he'll turn a new page, find another
His only regret is waiting, hoping your silence would subside

If it's going to be said, he must say it
'Here's bidding you a delayed, fare thee well ... Goodbye'
