questionable competitions

I don't enter as many comps as I used to, partly because they often don't seem that interesting to me and partly because I get the feeling they are not particularly unbiased. I read more comps than I do poems in any particular persons library because I figure people won't enter a poem in a comp unless they feel it is a pretty good poem, but clearly I am wrong. In fact, some of the winners are poems I think are not only not the best one entered in the comp, but some just plain suck. Now I am not going to say which ones, as I don't want to insult anyone, but if anyone has noticed the same thing I have, then you already understand why I only rarely enter comps anymore. I may stop reading them as well. Although I do often find some very good poems to read there, it sometimes seems like searching for a needle in a haystack. But I do occasionally find an interesting poet to follow that I hadn't read before, so I won't stop reading altogether, even if I do stop entering them...
