Image for the poem Room 205

Room 205

Alone on a three day road trip
Heading up to the Great White North
Visiting some family and friends
She hadn't seen them in many years

Head bobbing and dozing behind the wheel
She pulled off at a road side motel
Once checked in she took a steamy shower
It gave her a burst of energy

Got dressed in a slinky red dress
Swept her hair up in an updo
Flirty strands falling around her face snd down her back
Makeup done to perfection, she was ready to go

Took off to the manager's office
Asked where a girl could get a drink
Motioning across the street
But nothing stood out

Only thing there was a boarded up building
He said, " Miss looks can be deceiving. Go around back."
So off she went across the lonely street
Amazed by what she found

When she opened the large heavy door
The little place was packed
Feeling the seduction of Bille Holiday
Belting out "Crazy He Call Me"

She felt an instant connection to this place
All eyes and heads turned her way
Was it that she was an unfamiliar face
Or did she possibly look that good?

Head held high she goes straight to the bar
Through the crowd scented with smoke, booze and sweat
One thing was very evident
She was way over dressed for this rag tag bunch

Never before had she been so happy to reach a barstool before
Eagerly she climbed on
Ordered a shot of Jameson
Along with a beer back

Her eyes scanned the room
Trying to figure this place out
Thats when she spotted him
He didn't seem to fit in here either

Dressed in his dark suit and fedora
Not the local uniform of a flannel shirt and old jeans
There he sat at a corner table all alone
Journal and pen on the table, a shot and cigarette in his hands

His head was down except for when he threw back his shot
But she never could see his eyes
He had a such a strong and manly jaw
Lips made for kissing

As he writes you can tell he's observing evreryone in the room
That is, except for her
His head not once turning her way
I sat wondering how to get his attention

She ordered a double shot of courage
Too shy to just get up and walk over
That's just not who she is
Maybe she will be able to with a couple of more drinks

About to order another when a glass of champagne arrives
She protests that she did not order it
He tells her it was sent by someone
Yet refuses to say who it was

She looks around but they are not giving it away
Giving up her attention returns to him
Sex oozed from this man
Every lick of his and stroke of his pen were getting to her

Two more bubbly glasses arrived
She had learned not to argue
Plus they helping to ready her for going to HIM
But wait....he was standing up

He was coming in her direction
Her nervousness peaked
Sweaty palms and butterflies filling her gut
Could he truly be coming to her?

As he walks up he finally lifts his hat
His sexy eyes seem to be looking into her
Two dark, sexy and searing pools
That she so wanted to get lost in

Never saying a word he just stood there staring for a momebt
Reached over to the bar to put out his cigarette
Then opened his journal
Suddenly he ripped out two pages

Hebhanded them to her and walked away
Stunned she looks down at the pieces of paper
One was a poem titled "Red Dress Goddess"
The other was a sketch of her

At the bottom of the sketch was scribbled "Room 205"
She blushed a bit
After reading his words she could not resist
Stood up and went to him
